New House Project: Fireplaces (Sneak Peak!)

I have mentioned that my new place has no less than three fireplaces.  Well, they're not working fireplaces, though they once were, BITD.  So now they're just cool architectural fixtures; two downstairs in the main living space, and one upstairs in the main bedroom.

I've seen cool things done with fireplaces, and I wanted to be sure that each on in my home had its own unique, non-fire related touch.  Before I give you a sneak peak of one, here are a few ideas I found inspiring:

There's the old, "fill it with candles" routine...

Yakuza Fireplace 2

"Put naked people on it and stuff"...

Scandal: Charles Sergeant Jagger 1930

"Make it an art piece"...

Fireplace

"Let people know you really hate letters" (burn, words, BURN!)...

Our solution to a non-working fireplace: old letters

"Fake it til ya make it"...

A Cozy Plywood Fire

Or simply, "Stock that mother to the hilt with logs" (which I actually adore.  Home below belongs to Ms. Joanna Goddard herself! )...

So, here's what I ended up doing with one of the fireplaces (yes, you know I gotta color code):

What do you think?  Would you put books in a fireplace?  What creative fireplace-fillers have you seen?

I'll update this project with more photos soon!
